Drake’s music may be classified as “rap” by some standards — but Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) doesn’t see it as real hip hop.

The iconic rapper recently did an interview on “The Cutting Room Floor” … where the host directly asked him if he thinks Drake is “hip hop,” which led to an interesting conversation. To sum it up, no … Mos doesn’t think Aubrey’s in the circle.

Mos also questioned if Drake ever pushes his listeners with art that they might not like — implying that everyone always praises Drizzy’s music and cheers him on.

 Drake

This is an old argument that never ends -with hip hop purists constantly s****ing on Drake as too soft for their taste … and now, a hip hop legend is joining them.

Drake has stood up for himself on this topic, and yes … he’s shown he can rap with the best of them, so his hip hop credentials have been established. But it seems like some of his peers still think he’s a bit too pop-oriented … which is okay.

The truth is, he’s one of the most popular artists in the world, and he’s very rich too. You give up something for another, we guess … having a lot of fans is very lucrative.

Rodney Dangerfield had the perfect phrase … no respect.
