Travis Kelce, the 34-year-old NFL tight end, might be subtly hinting at Taylor Swift’s music once again with his pre-game fashion statement.
Kelce arrived in Baltimore on Saturday, ready for the Chiefs-Ravens game on Sunday, donned in a completely black ensemble.
The standout piece of his outfit was a silver chain necklace, which bears a striking resemblance to the one worn by his girlfriend, the pop sensation Taylor Swift, on the cover of her 2017 album, Reputation. This has led fans and critics to speculate that Reputation could be the next album Swift plans to re-record and release as part of her ongoing effort to regain control of her music catalog, known as Taylor’s Version.
Kelce disembarked from his team’s plane looking sharp in a black double-breasted suit jacket, black trousers, and black boots. His look was completed with a black beanie, black sunglasses, and a black duffle bag.
The official Instagram account of the Kansas City Chiefs showcased Kelce’s outfit along with those of his teammates in a photo series on Saturday, aptly titled “Road trip drip.”
Before the Chiefs-Bills game last week, Kelce made a fashion statement in Buffalo, New York, with a multicolored striped turtleneck paired with a mustard yellow suit. This ensemble drew comparisons to the outfit Swift wore in her 2022 music video for “Anti-Hero.”
Kelce’s choice of attire for Sunday’s AFC Championship game could be interpreted as a show of support for Swift’s anticipated release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Fans of Swift, affectionately known as Swifties, are eagerly awaiting its release this year as Swift continues her worldwide Eras Tour.
For the original release of Reputation, Swift complemented her chain necklace with a gray Pinko sweater, distinctively designed with holes interconnected by metal chains.
Kelce’s chain necklace, a prominent feature against his all-black attire, bears a striking similarity to the one Swift wore on the Reputation album cover. The album Reputation is frequently associated with the color black and symbols of snakes.
It seems that Swift is subtly indicating through her recent fashion choices that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) could be her next release. In an interview with TIME at the end of 2023, she characterized the upcoming re-release “a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure.”
Throughout the current NFL season and the playoffs, the artist known for the song “End Game” has personally attended 11 games to cheer on Kelce. The Chiefs have secured victories in eight of these matches.
