Sylvester Stallone is mourning an incredible loss. Shortly after the news of Carl Weathers’ death was announced, Stallone expressed his heartfelt tribute to his co-star from Rocky on Instagram.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for me. I’m so torn up, I can’t even tell you. I’m just trying to hold it in because Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success, everything about it,” Stallone said. “I give him incredible credit and kudos, because, when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t realize how great.”

“I never could’ve accomplished what we did with Rocky without him,” Stallone added.”He was absolutely brilliant; his voice, his size, his power, his athletic ability, but, more importantly, his heart, his soul. It’s a horrible loss.”

In the video, Stallone is seen standing before a vibrant painting that depicts him and Weathers in a boxing match. He shares that he “it was probably the last moment we were ever in the ring together, and I’ll never forget it.”

“He was magic, and I was so fortunate to be part of his life,” Stallone finishing. “Apollo, keep punching.”

Stallone also wrote a touching caption for his post, which read “We lost a legend yesterday. My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. Rest in power and keeping punching.”

Carl Weathers first stepped into the shoes of Apollo Creed in the 1976 film “Rocky”, where he offered Sylvester Stallone’s character, the underdog boxer Rocky Balboa, a chance at the championship. This character became a cornerstone of the franchise, with Weathers reprising his role in “Rocky II” (1979) for a title rematch with Balboa.

Weathers continued to enthrall viewers with his portrayal of Apollo Creed in “Rocky III” (1982). His character made its final appearance in “Rocky IV” (1984), where, in a tragic turn of events, Apollo Creed lost his life in a match against the Russian heavyweight Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren.

Beyond the “Rocky” series, Weathers showcased his versatility with roles in “The Mandalorian”, lending his voice to a character in “Toy Story 4”, starring alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator”, and sharing the screen with Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore”.
