Sarah Ferguson disclosed Skin Cancer Diagnosis Weeks After Announcing That She ‘Beat’ Breast Cancer

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer. This news comes after her early breast cancer diagnosis earlier this summer.

The Duchess had several moles removed and examined by a dermatologist during her reconstructive surgery after her mastectomy. One of these moles was found to be cancerous. She expressed her gratitude towards the medical team that has been supporting her, especially her dermatologist whose alertness led to the early detection of the disease. She emphasized the importance of regular checks for changes in moles, as they can be an indicator of melanoma.

Currently, the Duchess is undergoing treatment for her melanoma in London and has been recuperating at the MAYRLIFE clinic, a health resort in Altaussee, Austria. She is undergoing additional tests to ensure the early detection of the disease. Despite the distress caused by another diagnosis shortly after her breast cancer treatment, the Duchess is reportedly maintaining a positive attitude.

The news was first reported by The Sun. A friend of the Duchess shared with usnewsdaily that the second cancer diagnosis within a few months has been a shock but noted her resilience and good spirits. The friend also mentioned that her time in Austria has helped her regain her strength and that she has the support of her family.

Sarah Ferguson, also known as Fergie, has been diagnosed with skin cancer. Interestingly, her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, has a connection to this diagnosis as she is a patron of the British Skin Foundation and has previously worked with skin cancer patients.

In an interview with PEOPLE last November, the Duchess of York shared that her daughters, Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were her staunch supporters during her battle with breast cancer. She referred to them as her “cheerleaders,” “champions,” and “soulmates.”

Fergie was first diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer in June of the previous year, which was detected during a routine mammogram screening. She underwent successful surgery as part of her treatment. On New Year’s Eve, she announced on social media that she had overcome breast cancer.

Following her single mastectomy, Fergie, known for her sense of humor, revealed on her podcast, Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah, that she had affectionately named her reconstructed left breast “Derek,” stating that “he” had saved her life.

In the same episode, she mentioned her father, who had passed away from prostate cancer, and emphasized the importance of early detection. She urged everyone listening to her podcast to get checked and screened, underscoring the significance of proactive health measures.
