Speaking openly about his troubled background, Alan Ritchson says he tried suicide once during a low time in his life, but his sons saved him from taking his own life.

The Hollywood Reporter recently conducted an extensive interview with the “Reacher” actor, during which he revealed his startling admission of having attempted suicide by hanging.

In 2019, Ritchson went to his California home’s attic and climbed to the top of the loft, tossing one end of an extension cord over the rafters and fastening it, he told the outlet.

Then Ritchson said he tied the other end of the cord around his neck and “let go,” trying to hang himself.

But, Ritchson suddenly had what he called a moment of “divine intervention,” seeing a vision of his 3 adolescent sons as adults in their mid-30s.

Ritchson’s sons gently pleaded with him not to commit suicide in the vision, encouraging him to live in order to be with them.

Thanks to his athletic abilities, Ritchson was able to change his mind and get himself up before he fell unconscious.

Richson said she went through a terrible time, being sexually assaulted for years while working as a model. He described the modeling industry as “legalized sex trafficking” due to its lack of regulation and claimed that it had few redeeming characteristics.

He added that after you were recruited for a job, it’s widely known that you would be handed over to a photog for sex trafficking.

In summarizing his experience, Ritchson said, “The number of times and situations where I was put in horrific environments where sexual abuse was the goal and the paycheck that you were desperate for in order to survive was the carrot, I can’t count on two hands. It was quite often.”

The final straw came when he was brought to a hotel for a modeling gig and saw a renowned photographer who assured him of a lucrative clothing line campaign in return for posing for a nude photo shoot.

Ritchson said the photog sexually assaulted him, prompting him to drive to his LA modeling agency and let his rep have it, shouting, “F*** you for sending me there. you knew what was going to happen, and you did it anyway.”

With a sly smirk, the representative told Ritchson to settle down. Ritchson, however, called it quits on the relationship and never again took modeling jobs. After that, he began acting, which had a negative effect on his mental health as well. A female colleague once threatened to make up a case against him alleging sexual assault.

Ritchson claimed that he was given a bipolar disorder diagnosis by a doctor shortly after attempting suicide.

Scary stuff.
