NYPD officer shot in stomach during traffic stop in Queens: sources

Law enforcement sources report that during a traffic check in Queens on Monday night, an NYPD officer was shot in the stomach.

During the car stop on 19-19 Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway at approximately 5:50 p.m., a suspect was also hit by gunfire, according to the sources.

According to authorities, the 31-year-old police officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital but his status was not immediately known.

Based on preliminary evidence, sources claimed that the bullet may have pierced or missed the officer’s vest.

The suspect’s immediate health status was unknown.

Initial reports stated that two persons had been placed under arrest.

According to accounts, the shot officer is a member of the elite community response team.

The shooting on Monday night was not immediately known to the NYPD.
