A car accident left Heat’s Haywood Highsmith in trouble. He was on his way home after playing for three minutes in their 121-95 victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night. According to local reporter Andy Slater, Highsmith hit a man who was trying to help another driver who had gotten stuck on the road. The man who was hit suffered a serious injury and had part of his leg amputated. He is still in critical condition the report added.
The Heat expressed their sympathy for the injured people in a statement. They said, “Our hearts go out to those who were injured.”
Highsmith is a 27-year-old player who joined the Heat in 2018 from Wheeling University. He has also played in the G League and abroad. He has played in 37 games this season and has an average of 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. It is not known when he will be back on the team.
