Jonathan Majors wanted that the judge drop his criminal case… however, the court rejected his motion, therefore the conviction stands in place and he will be sentenced.

The actor’s recent attempt to have the guilty conviction overturned was rejected on Wednesday in New York, which is unfortunate for him because it means that the impending sentencing hearing that is scheduled for next week will really proceed.

As we previously reported, Majors’ defense team filed a motion to have the charges dropped. They cited a number of various grounds to support their claim, one of them being that the counts for which he was found guilty at the end of the trial were wrongly assigned.

As you may remember, Majors’ attorneys had stated that they thought the prosecution was trying to convince the jury of an alleged assault that Grace Jabbari had claimed happened inside their car that night. But when push came to shove, Jonathan was ultimately convicted on what had happened outside of the car. Specifically, him putting her back inside the SUV.

According to TMZ sources, the prosecutor’s team felt that after failing to persuade the jury of the events that they said happened inside the car, they redirected the attention to the “reckless” assault that they said happened outside the car.

In the end, Majors was found guilty on one charge of assault and one count of harassment. A court has ruled that those charges are justified, despite the fact that his team didn’t think so.

Majors’ sentencing is now scheduled for April 8. In the worst case situation, the judge may decide to put him on probation or spend up to a year in prison.
