It’s a historic moment for Elon Musk and his company, Neuralink. The billionaire entrepreneur has announced that for the first time, a human has been equipped with the startup’s brain chip.
According to Musk, the patient, who is part of Neuralink’s inaugural human trial group, underwent the implant procedure on Sunday and is currently recovering well.
Elon further stated, … “Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.”
Elon says that the brain chip, named “Telepathy”.
Elon explains says it “enables control of your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking.”
In other words, Elon says … “Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal.”
Neuralink’s inaugural human trial is being conducted on individuals who have lost limb functionality.
The company, led by Elon, is evaluating the safety of both the implant and the surgical robot that is responsible for inserting the chip into the brain. Neuralink is also keen to understand how this advanced technology performs in real-world scenarios.
The FDA gave the green light for this trial in May, marking just one phase in the lengthy journey towards ultimate FDA endorsement.
Nonetheless, this represents a significant stride for Elon, his company … and humanity.
