Manila, Philippines: The United States Geological Survey reported that a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck the southern Philippines on Friday, and local authorities issued a warning of possible damage.
In a statement, the USGS said that after the earthquake hit Sarangani province on the main southern island of Mindanao at a depth of 78 kilometers (48 miles) at 0814 GMT, there was no tsunami threat. There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the earthquake was felt in the wider region of the mountainous archipelago.
